Abstract Given a p-dimensional nonnegative, integral vector α, this paper characterizes the convex hull of the set S of nonnegative, integral vectors x that is lexicographically less than or equal to α. To obtain a finite number of elements in S, the vectors x are restricted to be component-wise upper-bounded by an integral vector u. We show that a linear number of facets is sufficient to describe the convex hull. For the special case in which every entry of u takes the same value (n− 1) for some integer n ≥ 2, the convex hull of the set of n-ary vectors results. Our facets generalize the known family of cover inequalities for the n = 2 binary case. They allow for advances relative to both the modeling of integer variables using base-n expansions, and the solving of n-ary knapsack problems having weakly super-decreasing coefficients.

Convex hulls of superincreasing knapsacks and lexicographic orderings

We consider bounded integer knapsacks where the weights and variable upper bounds together form a superincreasing sequence. The elements of this superincreasing knapsack are exactly those vectors that are lexicographically smaller than the greedy solution to optimizing over this knapsack. We describe the convex hull of this n-dimensional set with O(n) facets. We also establish a distributive pr...

Category and subcategories of (L,M)-fuzzy convex spaces

Inthispaper, (L,M)-fuzzy domain finiteness and (L,M)-fuzzy restricted hull spaces are introduced, and several characterizations of the category (L,M)-CS of (L,M)-fuzzy convex spaces are obtained. Then, (L,M)-fuzzy stratified (resp. weakly induced, induced) convex spaces are introduced. It is proved that both categories, the category (L,M)-SCS of (L,M)-fuzzy stratified convex spaces and the cate...

Pre-hull number and lexicographic product

Recently the invariant (copoint) pre-hull number ph(G) of a graph G that measures the nonconvexity of a convex space was introduced by Polat and Sabidussi in [18]. We introduce a similar invariant called convex pre-hull number which is a natural upper bound for the copoint pre-hull number and consider in this work both on the lexicographic product of graphs. We present exact values with respect...

Cyclic Polytopes and Oriented Matroids

Consider the moment curve in the real Euclidean space R defined parametrically by the map γ : R → R, t → γ(t) = (t, t, . . . , t). The cyclic d-polytope Cd(t1, . . . , tn) is the convex hull of the n, n > d, different points on this curve. The matroidal analogues are the alternating oriented uniform matroids. A polytope [resp. matroid polytope] is called cyclic if its face lattice is isomorphic...

Relating lexicographic smoothness and directed subdifferentiability

Lexicographic derivatives developed by Nesterov and directed subdifferentials developed by Baier, Farkhi, and Roshchina are both essentially nonconvex generalized derivatives for nonsmooth nonconvex functions and satisfy strict calculus rules and mean-value theorems. This article aims to clarify the relationship between the two generalized derivatives. In particular, for scalar-valued functions...
